The Iranian foreign ministry deplored the Sunday terrorist attack at a market which killed 22 Shiite Muslims and wounded 55 others in Pakistan’s Kurram tribal region near the Afghan border.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari said the terrorist attack was carried out by the enemies of the Pakistani nation and the Muslim world in pursuit of their devilish objectives, and added, "Terrorists are seeking to disturb peace and stability in Pakistan."
He extended the Iranian nation and government's sympathy to the bereaved Pakistani nation and government, and hoped that recurrence of such terrorist acts in future would be prevented through the adoption of the necessary policies and measures.
At least 22 people were killed and dozens others wounded on Sunday in a blast at a used clothes market in Kurram Agency's Parachinar area.
Hospital sources said that 55 people were injured as a result of the blast out of which more than 15 victims are in critical condition.
A sectarian outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) 'international' wing, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Al-Aalmi (LeJ World) claimed responsibility for the blast.
The market was bustling with people who were out shopping for clothes. As winter season arrives locals throng lunda (used clothes markets) bazaars to buy used and second-hand clothes.
